What's Happening?
Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) and the Bristol Hills Historical Society have received a first-place award for their collaborative video, 'History and Mystery: The Folklore and Legends of the Bristol Hills.'
The award was given by the Alliance for Community Media Northeast Region during the Nor’Easter Video Festival Awards. The 35-minute film, which serves as a companion to a book of the same name, was recognized in the arts and culture category. It features animations of watercolor images and an original soundtrack, highlighting local folklore and legends.
Why It's Important?
This award underscores the importance of preserving and promoting local history through modern media. By winning this accolade, FLCC and the Bristol Hills Historical Society have demonstrated the value of community collaboration in cultural preservation. The film not only educates viewers about regional history but also showcases the potential of public access television as a platform for cultural storytelling. This recognition may inspire other educational institutions and historical societies to engage in similar projects, thereby enriching community engagement and historical awareness.
