What's Happening?
A new international academic organization, the Contemporary Antisemitism Studies Association (CASA), was launched at the University of Haifa during the 'Contemporary Antisemitism – Haifa 2026' conference. CASA aims to serve as a global professional organization for
researchers studying contemporary antisemitism across various academic disciplines. Over 150 academics have joined as founding members, and an advisory committee of leading scholars has been established. The association plans to expand research networks, publish a peer-reviewed journal, and connect scholars with policymakers and educators. CASA was founded through a partnership among the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism, Gratz College in Pennsylvania, and the Comper Center for the Study of Antisemitism and Racism at the University of Haifa.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of CASA is significant as it addresses the growing scholarly interest in contemporary antisemitism, providing a structured platform for research and collaboration. By institutionalizing an international research community, CASA aims to challenge antisemitic assumptions and discriminatory practices in academic, cultural, and public life. This initiative is crucial in promoting evidence-based research and academic rigor, which are essential in understanding and combating antisemitism. The association's efforts to connect research findings with policymakers and educators could lead to more informed public policies and educational programs, potentially reducing antisemitism's impact on society.
