What's Happening?
The LSU AgCenter, in collaboration with the Grow Louisiana Beginning Farmer Training Program and the Louisiana Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Professional Development Program, is organizing an Organic Farming Workshop on April 17-18 at LSU's
main campus in Baton Rouge. The workshop will feature Daniel Parson from Oxford College Farm at Emory University, who will provide insights into sustainable farming practices for small- and medium-scale horticulture farmers. Topics include soil fertility, crop rotation, pest management, and marketing strategies. The USDA Farm Service Agency will also present information on programs for beginning farmers. The event requires advance registration, with a fee of $15 per day, including lunch.
Why It's Important?
This workshop is crucial for promoting sustainable agricultural practices and supporting new farmers in Louisiana. By providing education on organic farming techniques, the event aims to enhance the viability and environmental sustainability of local agriculture. The involvement of the USDA Farm Service Agency highlights the importance of government support in fostering agricultural development. Workshops like this contribute to the growth of organic farming, which is increasingly important for food security and environmental conservation. They also offer networking opportunities for farmers to share knowledge and experiences, strengthening the agricultural community.
