WFAE, a public radio station, celebrated its 45th anniversary by recognizing significant contributors with Beacon Awards. The awards were presented to two former board members, Astrid Chirinos and Mark Ethridge, and current Chief Engineer Jobie Sprinkle.
The ceremony highlighted their pivotal roles in enhancing WFAE's journalism and community engagement in the Charlotte region. Chirinos, known for her advocacy and community-building efforts, played a crucial role in establishing the EQUALibrium Awards. Ethridge, a novelist and former board chair, contributed significantly to the station's strategic direction. Sprinkle, who has been with WFAE since 1990, was acknowledged for his technical expertise and support to various radio stations across North Carolina.
