What's Happening?
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR) has announced significant changes to its editorial structure, including the creation of a new boutique imprint and the division of its editorial team into two distinct groups. Alvina Ling, previously the VP
and editor-in-chief, has been appointed as VP and publisher of the new imprint, which is yet to be named. Ling has a notable career, having overseen the publication of award-winning titles such as 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown. The new imprint is expected to continue Ling's successful career, with further details to be announced next year. The editorial team will now focus on two areas: Young Reader (0-12) and Older Readers and Upper Nonfiction (12+). Erin Berger, formerly of Scholastic, will lead the Young Reader group, while Lisa Yoskowitz will oversee the Older Readers category.
Why It's Important?
The restructuring at LBYR reflects a strategic move to enhance its editorial capabilities and expand its market presence. By creating a new imprint and dividing its editorial focus, LBYR aims to cater more effectively to different age groups and genres, potentially increasing its competitive edge in the publishing industry. This change could lead to more specialized and targeted content, appealing to a broader audience and driving sales. The appointment of experienced leaders like Alvina Ling and Erin Berger suggests a commitment to maintaining high editorial standards and fostering innovation in children's literature.
What's Next?
LBYR plans to announce more details about the new imprint, including its name, logo, and initial publication list, next year. The restructuring may lead to new partnerships and collaborations within the publishing industry, as the company seeks to expand its influence and reach. Stakeholders, including authors and literary agents, will likely be watching closely to see how these changes impact the types of books published and the opportunities available for new and existing authors.
