Cuba has presented two national plans to members of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, seeking international support to scale up local food production and strengthen social safety nets. These plans aim to support nearly 2 million people in the country's
eastern provinces, which are particularly vulnerable due to sanctions, trade embargoes, energy shortages, and extreme weather events. The 'Targeted Social Protection for Food Security and Nutrition' program, with technical input from the World Food Programme (WFP) Cuba, seeks to modernize social registries and expand food and cash-based assistance for 584,000 vulnerable individuals. The 'Sustainable and Resilient Local Food Systems for Social Protection and Food Security' program, supported by FAO, aims to increase local food production and benefit over 1.3 million people.
