What's Happening?
PepsiCo, Mars, and ADM have partnered to initiate a regenerative agriculture program in Poland, aimed at supporting 24 farmers in adopting sustainable practices across 5,454 hectares. Mars is focusing on regenerative wheat for pet care brands, while PepsiCo is advancing sustainable rapeseed cultivation for brands like Lay’s and Doritos. The initiative emphasizes a holistic approach to improve soil health, water management, and agricultural resilience. ADM will provide financial and technical resources to aid farmers in transitioning to regenerative practices, which include conservation tillage and cover cropping.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration is significant as it addresses the environmental impact of the agricultural supply chain, promoting sustainable practices that enhance soil health and reduce emissions. By integrating regenerative practices, the initiative aims to strengthen farm resilience and support long-term agricultural sustainability. The program aligns with PepsiCo's global ambition to implement regenerative practices over 10 million acres by 2030, potentially influencing broader adoption of sustainable agriculture methods beyond Poland.
What's Next?
The initiative will leverage data collection and impact measurement tools like the Cool Farm Tool to assess and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Insights gained from this program may inform future expansions in other markets, contributing to the resilience of the global food system. The collaboration between PepsiCo, Mars, and ADM sets a precedent for similar partnerships in the food industry, aiming to standardize and accelerate the implementation of regenerative farming methods.
