What's Happening?
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) have announced the opening of applications for the sixth round of the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to create training
opportunities, expand the talent pipeline, and enhance diversity within the construction industry and building trades across Illinois. Eligible entities, including non-profit organizations, community colleges, and school districts, can apply for grants ranging from $150,000 to $550,000. This round of funding, totaling $25 million, aims to support up to 45 programs statewide, serving nearly 2,000 residents. A key focus of the program is to increase the representation of underrepresented groups, such as people of color, veterans, and women, in the construction trades. Since its inception in 2021, the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program has awarded over $70 million, benefiting more than 7,000 residents by providing tuition-free training, stipends, and supportive services.
