Health Minister Haim Katz has signed a significant reform aimed at easing the regulatory requirements for Israel's food service sector. This reform introduces a new 'micro food service' category, which exempts small businesses like kiosks serving hot
beverages and ready-to-eat food from minimum floor space and storage room requirements. The changes also allow for alternative storage solutions and eliminate the need for dedicated storage rooms in many cases. The reform is designed to enable businesses to operate in smaller spaces, reducing the need for employee changing rooms and specific clothing for staff. Despite these changes, the ministry assures that food safety and public health standards will remain unchanged. The reform is considered one of the most significant regulatory changes in recent years for the sector, which includes approximately 23,500 licensed businesses generating over NIS 50 billion annually.
