What's Happening?
The Swiss Drone and Robotics Centre (SDRC) is collaborating with Skysec, a Swiss unmanned aircraft system manufacturer, to develop the non-kinetic Sentinel Catch interceptor. This device uses a net as its payload to capture drones, minimizing collateral
damage. The development, ongoing since 2021, was discussed at the International Armoured Vehicles 2026 conference. The interceptor is designed for potential use as a counter-UAS around airports, with various use cases to be presented to the Swiss Armed Forces. The project aims to provide a safer alternative for drone interception, with modular payload options.
Why It's Important?
The development of the Sentinel Catch interceptor is significant in the context of increasing drone activity and the need for effective counter-UAS solutions. By offering a non-kinetic approach, the interceptor reduces the risk of damage in sensitive areas like airports. This innovation reflects a growing demand for advanced drone management technologies, particularly in defense and security sectors. The collaboration between SDRC and Skysec highlights the importance of partnerships in advancing technological solutions to address emerging security challenges.
