What's Happening?
Resource Industries, a defense firm based in the United Arab Emirates, introduced its Seaguard unmanned surface vehicle (USV) at the UMEX 2026 exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The Seaguard USV is designed for various roles, including patrol, attack, and border
protection. It features a 3.45-meter length, a 1.25-meter beam, and a weight of 380 kg. The vehicle is powered by a 300 hp petrol engine and has a 50 km operational range. It is equipped with an electro-optic/infrared sensor and can carry a payload of 250 kg. The company aims for the Seaguard to be acquired by the UAE Navy.
Why It's Important?
The unveiling of the Seaguard USV highlights the growing interest in unmanned maritime technology for defense purposes. Such technologies offer enhanced capabilities for surveillance and security operations, potentially reducing the need for human-operated vessels in dangerous or remote areas. The development of the Seaguard also reflects the UAE's commitment to advancing its defense technology sector and could strengthen its naval capabilities. The successful deployment of the Seaguard could set a precedent for other nations considering similar technologies.
