The waterfall, approximately 30 feet tall, consists of two tiers and is fed by Shale Creek. The flame, protected by a grotto, burns due to methane and other gases escaping from the Hanover Shale formation, dating back to the Devonian period. The best time to visit is in early spring when the waterfall is most impressive due to meltwater.
