What's Happening?
The city of Philadelphia has initiated the Power Up Tech Corps, a volunteer program aimed at expanding digital skills among residents. This one-year pilot program, launched by the Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT), will place volunteers at community
hubs such as recreation centers and libraries to assist residents in learning digital skills. Volunteers will serve in various roles, including computer lab monitors and digital skills instructors, using OIT's curriculum. The program targets both youth and adults, offering them training and networking opportunities. OIT plans to deploy over 30 volunteers across at least 10 partner sites during the pilot year. This initiative complements existing digital equity efforts by OIT, such as the Digital Navigator network and free public Wi-Fi at select locations.
