The United States has significantly reduced proposed tariffs on Italian pasta following a review by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Initially, 13 Italian pasta companies were set to face an additional 92% duty on top of the regular 15% rate on most EU
imports, starting January 2026. This decision was based on accusations that companies like La Molisana and Garofalo were selling pasta at unfairly low prices. However, after reassessment, the tariff for La Molisana was reduced to 2.26%, and Garofalo's rate was set at 13.98%. The remaining 11 producers, not individually reviewed, will face a tariff of 9.09%. The Italian foreign ministry welcomed the recalculation, viewing it as recognition of the companies' willingness to cooperate.
