A new study by LinkedIn indicates a widening gender gap in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence (AI) jobs within the U.S. Women account for only 26% of hires in AI-related positions, despite making up 50% of hires in non-AI roles. These AI jobs offer
significantly higher salaries, with a typical listing advertising around $177,000 annually, compared to approximately $80,000 for non-AI roles. This disparity is occurring as corporations invest billions in AI technology, leading to a doubling of AI job postings on LinkedIn since 2023. LinkedIn spokeswoman Sarah Steinberg highlighted that AI is creating some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying jobs globally, yet women are notably underrepresented in who is hired, who benefits from the pay premium, and who leads the development and deployment of this technology. The gender gap in the tech industry is becoming even more pronounced in AI, exacerbating existing barriers for women.
