What's Happening?
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has reported a 2% decline in total boxboard production for the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The boxboard operating rate also
decreased by 1.7 points to 88.7%. Despite the overall decline, certain segments such as Solid Bleached Folding and Plate, Dish & Tray saw increases in domestic production by 1% and 14%, respectively. The report highlights the mixed performance within the boxboard sector.
Why It's Important?
The decline in boxboard production could signal challenges in the paper and packaging industry, potentially affecting supply chains and pricing. The mixed performance across different segments suggests a shift in demand patterns, possibly influenced by changes in consumer behavior or economic conditions. Companies within the industry may need to adapt their strategies to address these fluctuations. The report serves as a critical indicator for stakeholders in the paper and packaging sectors, including manufacturers, suppliers, and investors.
