A recent study has identified a link between specific gut bacteria and muscle strength, suggesting a potential role for the gut microbiome in healthy aging. Researchers analyzed the gut microbiomes of 90 young adults (18-25) and 33 older adults (65-75),
finding that higher levels of the bacterium *Roseburia inulinivorans* were associated with stronger muscle performance. To investigate causality, experiments in mice showed that introducing *Roseburia inulinivorans* led to noticeably stronger grip strength and larger, more powerful muscle fibers. Further analysis indicated that this bacterium might influence how muscles utilize energy. The study also observed that older adults generally had lower levels of *Roseburia inulinivorans* compared to younger participants, aligning with the natural decline in muscle strength with age.
