The Embassy of Japan, led by First Secretary and Agriculture Attaché Hidenori Akasaka, visited the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to observe the Farm-to-School Meals Program. This initiative, supported by the World Food Program and the Japanese
government, aims to link local farmers directly with schools to provide a stable market for their produce. During the visit from January 12 to 14, Akasaka met with Minister Mohagher Iqbal of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education to express gratitude for the ministry's support. The program not only supplies schools with fresh produce but also offers capacity-building for farmers to enhance their skills and productivity. Akasaka visited the Upi Organic Farming Agriculture Cooperative and the Masabar Producers Cooperative, which are key suppliers for the program. He also addressed students at Campo Cuatro Elementary School, emphasizing the importance of nutrition for health and academic success.
