What's Happening?
The Portuguese Air Force has received its first modernized UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter from the U.S.-based company Ace Aeronautics. This delivery marks a significant upgrade in Portugal's military aviation capabilities. The helicopter, accepted in the United States on September 25, underwent a comprehensive recapitalization at the U.S. Army Corpus Christi Army Depot. It features advanced GE Aerospace T700-GE-701C turboshaft engines, an improved gearbox, an electrically powered rescue hoist system, and the Ace Deck VL-6 digital cockpit based on the Garmin G5000H flight deck system. Additionally, it is equipped with provisions for a complete electronic warfare suite. The acquisition, which includes three upgraded helicopters and a training package, was made for EUR20.9 million (USD24.4 million), with significant financial support from the European Union. The remaining two helicopters are expected to be delivered by 2026.
