What's Happening?
WHQR is set to introduce WBUR's On Point to its weekday schedule starting Monday, September 8th. The program, hosted by Meghna Chakrabarti since 2018, aims to provide listeners with a deeper understanding of global complexities through original reporting, first-person narratives, and live analysis. On Point will air on HQR News, 91-3 FM, from 12 noon to 1 pm. The addition of On Point necessitates changes to WHQR's existing schedule. Programs such as It's Been a Minute and Wild Card, previously airing on Mondays at noon, will be moved to Sunday afternoons at 4 pm beginning September 14th. Additionally, Planet Money and How I Built This will no longer air at noon on Tuesdays, and Radio Lab will not be broadcast at noon on alternate Fridays. These shows will continue at their regular Saturday times of 10 am and 1 pm, respectively.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of On Point in WHQR's schedule reflects the station's commitment to providing comprehensive and insightful programming to its audience. On Point's focus on making complex global issues more understandable aligns with WHQR's mission to offer quality content that informs and engages listeners. The schedule adjustments also highlight the station's efforts to optimize its programming lineup, ensuring that popular shows remain accessible to the audience at convenient times. This change may impact listeners who rely on the station's noon broadcasts for their favorite programs, prompting them to adjust their listening habits.
What's Next?
Listeners can expect the new schedule to take effect on September 8th, with On Point airing weekdays at noon. WHQR will continue to preempt On Point with The Newsroom approximately every other Friday. As the station implements these changes, feedback from the audience will be crucial in assessing the effectiveness of the new lineup. WHQR encourages listeners to send questions or comments about the schedule adjustments to feedback@whqr.org, indicating an openness to community input and potential further refinements.
