What's Happening?
Residents of Aura Care Living's Stratton Court in Cirencester participated in a unique cheese rolling event, inspired by the famous Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling competition. Instead of the traditional 7lb Double Gloucester cheese, participants rolled mini Babybel cheeses down a ramp. Teams of five, including residents, their families, and the public, competed in various heats, judged on speed, skill, and technique. The event, described as 'surreal' by care home sales director Peter Lloyd, attracted about 160 spectators. Steve Mackay emerged as the overall winner, receiving a Double Gloucester cheese wheel as a prize.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the creative ways care homes are engaging residents in activities that promote social interaction and physical activity. By adapting a well-known local tradition, the care home provided a fun and inclusive experience for residents, fostering a sense of community and enjoyment. Such events can improve the quality of life for care home residents, offering them opportunities to participate in unique and entertaining activities. Additionally, it showcases the potential for care homes to innovate in their approach to resident engagement, contributing to the overall well-being of their communities.
