What's Happening?
Baykar Defence of Türkiye and Indonesia's Republikorp Group have signed an agreement to export the Bayraktar Kizilelma unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) to the Indonesian Armed Forces. Announced at the SAHA 2026 International Defence and Aerospace
Exhibition in Istanbul, the agreement includes the delivery of 12 Kizilelma UCAVs starting in 2028. This collaboration builds on a previous joint venture to produce other UAVs in Indonesia. The agreement also proposes the establishment of maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities in Indonesia, aiming to develop an aerospace industry ecosystem in the country.
Why It's Important?
This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening defense ties between Türkiye and Indonesia, potentially enhancing Indonesia's military capabilities with advanced unmanned aerial technology. The deal could also stimulate the development of Indonesia's aerospace industry, creating opportunities for local employment and technological advancement. For Baykar, this agreement represents an expansion of its market reach and influence in the global defense sector. The collaboration may also encourage further international partnerships and investments in Indonesia's defense infrastructure.
What's Next?
The agreement sets the stage for future deliveries and potential expansion of the deal to include up to 48 Kizilelma UCAVs. As series production begins in Türkiye, both countries will likely focus on establishing the necessary infrastructure in Indonesia to support the operation and maintenance of these vehicles. This may involve training programs and technology transfers to ensure effective integration into the Indonesian Armed Forces. The success of this partnership could lead to further defense collaborations and increased geopolitical ties between the two nations.
