Congressman Bill Foster has introduced the Critical Materials Processing Technology Testbed Act of 2026. This legislation aims to assist the Department of Energy in developing safer materials processing technologies to strengthen the domestic battery
supply chain. The initiative focuses on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and reducing resource intensity. Foster's proposal was motivated by findings from a House Science Subcommittee hearing, which highlighted materials processing as a significant barrier to improving the U.S. battery supply chain.
