What's Happening?
Students from Neuqua Valley High School have been recognized for their film 'King of Hearts,' which won Outstanding Achievement in Cinema and the Audience Choice award at the 9th annual Student Silent
Film Festival in Downers Grove. The festival showcased films from 12 Chicago area high schools, judged on narrative quality, camera work, and editing. Additionally, the League of Women Voters of Naperville is organizing two online candidate forums for local elections. The forums will feature Democratic candidates for the DuPage County Board District 5 and Republican candidates for the U.S. House 11th District, providing a platform for candidates to present their views ahead of the March 17 primary.
Why It's Important?
The success of Neuqua Valley students at the film festival highlights the growing talent and creativity within local high schools, emphasizing the importance of arts education. Such recognition can inspire other students and schools to invest in creative programs. Meanwhile, the candidate forums organized by the League of Women Voters play a crucial role in promoting civic engagement and informed voting. By facilitating discussions between candidates and the public, these forums help voters make educated decisions, thereby strengthening democratic processes at the local level.
