What's Happening?
Hundreds of North American Jews are preparing to make aliyah, or immigrate to Israel, as part of a significant movement organized by Nefesh B’Nefesh in collaboration with Israel's Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Jewish Agency for Israel, and other
organizations. Recent events in New Jersey and Toronto attracted over 650 participants, including individuals, couples, and families, who are planning to relocate to Israel in the coming months. These gatherings provided practical information and support for the transition, featuring community activities and opportunities to connect with others making the same journey. The decision to move is driven by a combination of personal, cultural, and spiritual motivations, with many participants expressing a desire to raise their children in Israel and become part of the country's future.
Why It's Important?
This wave of aliyah reflects a broader trend of North American Jews seeking to strengthen their connection to Israel amidst ongoing global and regional challenges. The movement is significant for Israel as it continues to welcome new immigrants who contribute to the country's demographic and cultural landscape. For the participants, aliyah represents a profound personal and communal commitment, often seen as fulfilling a long-held Zionist dream. The influx of new immigrants is expected to have a lasting impact on Israeli society, as these individuals and families integrate into various communities and contribute to the nation's development. The support provided by organizations like Nefesh B’Nefesh is crucial in facilitating this transition, ensuring that new immigrants are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that await them in Israel.
What's Next?
As the aliyah season progresses, approximately 2,300 new immigrants from North America are expected to arrive in Israel between June and September 2026. These individuals will settle in various regions across the country, including major cities and more remote areas like the Negev and Galilee. The process involves not only logistical preparations but also cultural and social adjustments as new immigrants integrate into Israeli society. Organizations involved in the aliyah process will continue to provide support and resources to ensure a smooth transition. The long-term impact of this movement will depend on the successful integration of these new citizens into Israeli life, contributing to the country's diversity and resilience.
