Virginia Congressman Bobby Scott participated in a Leadership Exchange panel hosted by the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. The discussion focused on the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and strategies to prepare Black and Brown
students for the future economy, enabling them to lead, shape, and produce in this technological landscape. The panel, held in Washington, D.C., included other national education, innovation, and technology leaders such as Dr. Shawn Joseph, Superintendent of Prince George’s County Public Schools; Dr. Calvin Mackie, CEO of STEM NOLA; Ella McChesney, Co-Founder of Olive; and Dr. Mark Brown, Major General (R) President of Tuskegee University. The conversation highlighted the need for action beyond just panels and funding, emphasizing the importance of STEM engagement in out-of-school time and community settings. Dr. Mackie specifically noted a lack of faith in K-12 and Higher Education's ability or desire to engage entire communities in AI literacy, education, and training, advocating for partnerships between OST organizations, non-profits, and community-based groups like churches, recreational centers, libraries, and governments.
