General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $3.5 billion by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to develop next-generation reconnaissance
vehicles for the German Army Reconnaissance Corps. The new vehicle, named 'LUCHS 2', will be based on the Piranha 6x6 wheeled variant, which features amphibious capabilities and advanced reconnaissance networked sensor technology. The LUCHS 2 is set to replace the current Light 4x4 reconnaissance vehicle, FENNEK, enhancing mobility and assertiveness in military operations.
