What's Happening?
For over two decades, the Israeli non-governmental organization Save a Child’s Heart has been offering cardiac care to children from Somaliland. The organization facilitates the transportation of these children to Israel, where they undergo surgery at the Wolfson
Medical Center in Holon. This initiative has been a significant part of the medical ties between Israel and Somaliland, even before any formal recognition of relations. The program highlights the humanitarian efforts of Save a Child’s Heart in providing life-saving medical treatment to children who otherwise might not have access to such care.
Why It's Important?
The work of Save a Child’s Heart is crucial as it addresses the lack of advanced medical facilities in Somaliland, particularly for pediatric cardiac care. By providing these services, the NGO not only saves lives but also strengthens international humanitarian ties. This initiative showcases the potential for non-political organizations to foster goodwill and cooperation between countries. The program also highlights the importance of global health initiatives and the role they play in bridging gaps in healthcare access across different regions.
