What's Happening?
Iskefe Holding, a Turkish-based company, is planning to construct a food gelatin production plant in Kazakhstan. The project, discussed during a meeting between Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, and Iskefe Holding's Chairman, Bilal
Alkoch, is set to begin in 2026. The facility will have an annual processing capacity of 7,000 tons and is estimated to cost 22.5 billion tenge (approximately $42.9 million). This development is expected to significantly enhance Kazakhstan's agro-industrial sector by increasing raw material processing volumes, improving industry efficiency, and expanding export potential. Currently, Kazakhstan processes a small percentage of its leather raw materials domestically, with a large portion remaining unused.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of the gelatin production plant is crucial for Kazakhstan's agro-industrial sector, as it promises to boost the processing of raw materials and enhance export capabilities. This project aligns with Kazakhstan's Comprehensive Plan for Agricultural Product Processing Development (2024-2028), which aims to improve the country's agricultural infrastructure. By increasing domestic processing rates, Kazakhstan can reduce waste and increase the value of its agricultural products. The investment by Iskefe Holding also highlights the growing economic ties between Turkey and Kazakhstan, potentially leading to further collaborations in other sectors.
