investors, including industrialist George K. Shoenberger. Colonel William Chambliss, Shoenberger's brother-in-law and a Union Army veteran, arrived in Cobourg in 1867 and leveraged his extensive social network to attract military friends and other prominent Americans. Recognizing the town's charm, hunting, fishing, and temperate weather, Chambliss opened the upscale Arlington Hotel in 1874, featuring 150 rooms, dining halls, and a ballroom.
