What's Happening?
Clerk Mariyana T. Spyropoulos has announced the re-opening and relocation of the Self-Represented Litigant (SRL) Center in Chicago. The center, which assists individuals navigating the court system without an attorney, has moved to a more accessible location in Room
602 of the Daley Center. Open Monday through Friday, the center provides resources, guidance, and support to help self-represented litigants manage their legal matters effectively. The SRL Center is staffed by two clerks who assist with filing and e-filing cases. In 2025, the center helped nearly 5,000 residents, highlighting its importance in providing legal assistance to those who cannot afford an attorney.
Why It's Important?
The re-opening of the SRL Center is crucial for ensuring access to justice for individuals who represent themselves in legal matters. By providing resources and support, the center helps demystify the legal process, making it more accessible to those without legal representation. This initiative can lead to more equitable legal outcomes and reduce the burden on the court system by helping litigants prepare their cases more effectively. The center's services are particularly important in Cook County, where a significant number of court users are self-represented. By improving access to legal resources, the SRL Center plays a vital role in promoting fairness and efficiency in the judicial system.
