Greenfield Community College (GCC) and Community Action Pioneer Valley are collaborating to enhance the weatherization workforce in Franklin County, Massachusetts. This initiative is supported by a $925,000 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
The funding is divided between Community Action, which receives $750,000 to cover tuition for low-income students, and GCC, which receives $175,000 to develop and implement the training program. The program aims to train individuals in weatherization techniques, including identifying and sealing air leaks and applying insulation. The training is hands-on, taking place in outdoor settings and real homes, and is designed to prepare participants for roles such as HVAC technicians and crew supervisors. The first cohort is expected to begin training in June.
