A 17-year-old Chilean student, María Javiera Valenzuela, has proposed an innovative hybrid energy system aimed at reducing carbon emissions at Antarctic research stations. Her concept integrates renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines and solar
panels, with a next-generation nuclear microreactor. This system is designed to provide a reliable power supply in the harsh Antarctic environment, where traditional diesel generators are commonly used. The proposal estimates a reduction of 3,254 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
