In 2025, the Vanguard Charitable donor-advised fund distributed $3.9 billion to nearly 67,000 nonprofits, marking the ninth consecutive year of record giving. This represents a 27% increase from 2024. A significant portion of these grants, nearly $1 billion,
was allocated between November 1 and December 31. The top areas of support included human services, religion, education, health, and environment and wildlife. Notably, amid an extended government shutdown, Vanguard Charitable donors responded to rising food insecurity by granting $19 million to over 750 food programs and food banks from October 1 to November 13. Throughout the year, more than $61 million was directed to food banks and food programs, a 36% increase from the previous year. Half of all grants were unrestricted, allowing charities to allocate funds where most needed.
