What's Happening?
Mary Jane Deer, a Naperville native and recent Indiana University graduate, is producing her first full-length film titled 'Line Cooks.' The film is a mockumentary set in a fictional Korean-taco fusion restaurant, Kimchi-Rito, located in downtown Naperville. Directed by John Mossman, the film follows Callie, a college student working as a line cook alongside ex-cons and cartel members, as they prepare for a health inspector's visit. The film is being shot at the former Effin Egg restaurant, transformed into the Kimchi-Rito set. Deer, who also serves as a producer and editor, draws inspiration from her own experiences in the restaurant industry.
Why It's Important?
This film project highlights the growing trend of independent filmmaking, showcasing local talent and utilizing community resources. By setting the film in Naperville, Deer brings attention to the town and its potential as a filming location, which could boost local tourism and economic activity.
