What's Happening?
Axens has announced the launch of the ERA project, marking France's first industrial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production unit based on advanced bioethanol. The facility, which is expected to start operations in 2030, will have a capacity
of 50,000 tonnes per year. This initiative is part of Axens' broader commitment to low-carbon mobility and energy sovereignty, complementing other projects like NACRE and MACARON. The ERA project aims to expand SAF production beyond current pathways, utilizing biomass residues to strengthen the energy sovereignty of French and European air transport. The project will employ Jetanol™ technology, developed by Axens and IFPEN, to convert bioethanol into SAF and bio-naphtha.
