What's Happening?
The UK government has announced new measures aimed at saving consumers approximately £400 million annually by addressing unwanted and misleading subscription practices, known as subscription traps. These reforms, introduced by the Department for Business
and Trade, require businesses to provide clear information before sign-up, issue reminders before trials end, and offer straightforward cancellation options. A 14-day cooling-off period will also be implemented. The measures are part of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and are expected to take effect in spring 2027.
