What's Happening?
The SME Education Foundation is expanding its SME PRIME program to include three new maritime-focused high schools across the United States. This initiative aims to introduce students to maritime manufacturing
pathways, aligning with the U.S. Navy's Maritime Industrial Base Program. The expansion is part of a broader effort to address workforce gaps in the submarine, shipbuilding, and defense manufacturing sectors. SME PRIME connects high schools with local manufacturers to provide hands-on, career-ready learning experiences. The new schools joining the program are ACCEL Prep & Academy in Mobile, Alabama, West Islip High School in New York, and New Hope Solebury-Solebury High School in Pennsylvania. The program offers resources such as equipment, curriculum, teacher training, and student scholarships, tailored to meet local manufacturing needs.
