What's Happening?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for the Kluster Fun Tabletop Magnet Chess Game due to a serious risk of injury or death from magnetic ingestion. The recall affects approximately 151,600 units of the game, which contain
loose high-powered magnets that pose an ingestion hazard to children. These magnets can attract each other when swallowed, potentially causing severe internal injuries such as perforations, twisting, or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning, and even death. The games were sold nationwide at independent game shops and online platforms like Amazon and Etsy from October 2018 to September 2025. Stoney Games, the manufacturer, advises consumers to stop using the games immediately and contact the company for disposal instructions and replacement magnets.
Why It's Important?
This recall highlights the ongoing safety concerns associated with toys containing small, powerful magnets. Such products pose significant health risks, particularly to children, who may accidentally ingest the magnets. The recall underscores the importance of stringent safety standards and regulatory oversight in the toy industry to prevent potential injuries. It also serves as a reminder for parents and guardians to be vigilant about the toys their children play with, ensuring they meet safety standards. The recall could impact consumer trust in the brand and similar products, prompting manufacturers to reassess their safety protocols.
What's Next?
Consumers who own the recalled magnet chess games are urged to contact Stoney Games for further instructions on how to safely dispose of the magnets and obtain replacements. The company has provided contact information for customer service to facilitate this process. Meanwhile, the CPSC will likely continue monitoring the situation to ensure compliance and prevent further incidents. This recall may prompt other manufacturers to review their products for similar risks, potentially leading to additional recalls or safety improvements in the industry.
