Bernadette Acaso, a 19-year-old Filipino national residing in Hawaii, has been charged with unlawfully voting in the 2024 general election. U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson announced the charges, stating that Acaso, who is a lawful permanent resident but not
a U.S. citizen, allegedly cast a mail-in ballot. Acaso admitted to law enforcement that she was aware of her non-citizen status at the time of voting. If convicted, she faces up to one year in prison, a term of supervised release, and a fine of up to $100,000. The FBI and HSI are investigating the case, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi Turner prosecuting.
