DSIT Signs £2.5M Deal for Mass Data Migration Following GDS Expansion

What's Happening?

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has signed a potential £2.5 million contract with Swedish tech supplier Advania to facilitate the migration of 20TB of data from Cabinet Office systems. This move follows the expansion of the Government Digital Service (GDS) and its integration into DSIT. The data, previously stored in a Google tenancy environment, will be largely transferred to a Microsoft setup overseen by DSIT. The migration service covers both technical aspects and change management for staff, including training and support. The Integrated Corporate Services unit will play a key coordinating role, overseeing services such as procurement, digital, and HR across DSIT and other government entities.

This data migration is a critical component of the DSIT MOG IT program, launched after the machinery of government change that expanded GDS. The migration workstream reports into the DSIT MOG IT Programme Board, with the ICS information governance team managing the contract and tracking progress. The agreement allows for potential extensions and additional spending, which could increase the engagement's value to over £2.5 million.
