What's Happening?
The Lagos State Government has honored the BATN Foundation for its significant contributions to agricultural transformation and food security in Nigeria. The recognition took place during the 2025 Eko World Food Day event at the Police College in Ikeja.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, praised the Foundation for its commitment to innovation and resilience in the agricultural value chain. The BATN Foundation has been active for over two decades, impacting more than 300,000 farmers and reaching over 1.7 million beneficiaries across Nigeria. During the event, the Foundation donated modern smoking kilns and foldable fish ponds to smallholder farmers, aiming to improve food processing quality and promote climate-smart practices.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of the BATN Foundation underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving food security, especially in a megacity like Lagos. The Foundation's efforts contribute to sustainable agricultural practices and economic empowerment for farmers, aligning with global goals such as Zero Hunger and Partnerships for the Goals. By supporting smallholder farmers and promoting climate-resilient agribusinesses, the Foundation helps bridge farm-to-market gaps and stimulate local economies. This initiative is crucial for Lagos, given its geographical constraints and the need for innovative solutions to ensure food sufficiency.
