Chef Thai Dang has launched a new Southeast Asian restaurant named Crying Tiger in Chicago's River North area. The restaurant, which opened on October 14, is a collaboration with Lettuce Entertain You, a prominent restaurant group in Chicago. Crying Tiger is named after
a traditional Thai dish, 'Suea rong hai,' which translates to 'crying tiger' and features grilled beef with a spicy sauce. Chef Dang, who was nominated for a James Beard award, offers a signature dish of 45-day aged ribeye steak with grilled sticky rice. The menu also includes prawn toast made with youtiao, a type of fried bread, stuffed with shrimp and served with a Thai dipping sauce. The restaurant's interior, designed by David Collins Studio, seats around 130 people and features murals of tigers and vibrant decor.
