Meteoric has inaugurated a rare earth extraction laboratory in Poços de Caldas, Brazil, as part of the Caldeira Project. The facility, which cost $1.5 million, is designed to process 500 kg of mixed rare earth carbonate
annually. This laboratory aims to test process routes and verify material quality before scaling up operations. Despite this development, the Caldeira Project mine's environmental licensing remains delayed, pending a vote from the Minas Gerais State Environmental Policy Council (Copam). The laboratory will operate under the supervision of the National Nuclear Safety Authority due to potential radioactivity concerns, as rare earth ores often contain uranium and thorium.
