What's Happening?
Students from NC State's School of Architecture's Design + Build program have successfully completed 'The Crossover,' a new pavilion located at The Corner on Centennial Campus. This project, developed over 11 weeks, provides a gathering and shelter space
for students, employees, and visitors. The initiative is part of the university's Packways: Learning by Doing program, which emphasizes high-impact, hands-on experiences. The students transformed a small-scale concept into a full-scale structure, gaining practical experience in design, testing, and construction. This year's project presented unique challenges, including partnering with NC State Centennial Campus for the first time, incorporating structural steel through a grant from the American Institute of Steel Construction, and designing around an existing, immovable shipping container. The team also faced real-world obstacles such as delayed material deliveries and unforeseen underground electrical conduits, requiring on-the-fly adaptations to their design and schedule.
