What's Happening?
The Karnataka Agriculture Department is developing an AI-powered platform to provide farmers with region-specific advisories and real-time information. Expected to launch by Kharif 2026, the platform aims
to benefit over one crore farmers in the state. Developed in collaboration with ISRO, Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre, and BEL, the system will send alerts in Kannada to farmers' phones, covering the entire agricultural cycle from sowing to harvesting.
Why It's Important?
This initiative represents a significant advancement in agricultural support, leveraging technology to enhance productivity and decision-making for farmers. By providing timely and localized information, the platform can help farmers optimize their practices, potentially increasing yields and reducing losses. The integration of AI in agriculture could transform the sector, making it more resilient to climate variations and market demands, thereby supporting the state's economic stability and food security.
What's Next?
The platform is currently in the proposal stage, with data collection underway for registered farmers. Once operational, it will offer monsoon forecasts and actionable advice, helping farmers prepare for seasonal changes. The department's collaboration with technology partners suggests ongoing development and refinement of the system, with potential expansions to include more features and reach additional regions.
