What's Happening?
A new bipartisan nonprofit, RAISE US, has been launched with over $500 million to address potential job losses due to artificial intelligence (AI). Founded by former Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and former Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, the organization
aims to partner with states and major employers to develop education and training programs. The initiative seeks to help American workers transition to new careers in an increasingly automated economy. Initial programs will be piloted in Arkansas, Maryland, Utah, and Connecticut, with support from major companies like Amazon and Microsoft.
Why It's Important?
The rise of AI poses significant challenges to the U.S. labor market, with estimates suggesting that millions of jobs could be displaced. RAISE US aims to ensure that the economic benefits of AI do not come at the expense of American workers. By focusing on education and training, the nonprofit seeks to equip workers with the skills needed for new job opportunities. This initiative could play a crucial role in maintaining economic stability and addressing unemployment, which could otherwise destabilize the country and its democracy.
