What's Happening?
Farmers in Yilo Krobo, Ghana, participated in the Farmers Care Programme organized by Eminence Lead International, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices. The event, held at the Yilo Krobo Senior
High School, aimed to enhance the knowledge of approximately 300 mango farmers on land rights, agribusiness finance, and agrochemical safety. Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor, Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana, emphasized the importance of understanding land laws to prevent exploitation and disputes. Nicholas Nikoi from the Agricultural Development Bank advised farmers on treating agriculture as a business, highlighting financial management strategies. Dr. Felix Kwame Appiah from the Ghana Cocoa Board educated participants on the safe use of agrochemicals, stressing the importance of climate-smart agriculture and integrated pest management.
Why It's Important?
The programme underscores the critical role of sustainable agriculture in ensuring food security and rural development. By equipping farmers with knowledge on land rights and financial management, the initiative aims to empower them to make informed decisions, thereby enhancing productivity and livelihoods. The focus on agrochemical safety and climate-smart practices is vital for protecting the environment and ensuring the health of communities. This approach not only supports the agricultural value chain but also contributes to broader efforts to combat climate change and promote economic stability in rural areas.
What's Next?
Following the programme, farmers are expected to implement the knowledge gained in their farming practices, potentially leading to increased productivity and sustainability. The organizers, Eminence Lead International, plan to continue their efforts in empowering the agricultural sector through similar capacity-building initiatives. Stakeholders, including financial institutions and development partners, may further engage with farmers to provide ongoing support and resources, fostering a more resilient agricultural community.
