Two schoolgirls from Raipur, Vartika Patil and Umeshwari Sahu, represented Chhattisgarh at the BRICS 2026 competition with their innovative rainwater harvesting project. Their project, 'Building Sponge City Together,' focuses on sustainable urban water management
through the 'sponge city' concept. This approach involves using green infrastructure and improved drainage systems to absorb, store, and reuse rainwater, thereby reducing waterlogging, enhancing groundwater recharge, and promoting sustainable water use. The competition featured students from six Indian states, with the Raipur duo being the only participants from Chhattisgarh.
