What's Happening?
Clark Construction and D.A. Everett Construction have been awarded an $800 million contract to renovate the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The project, announced by Tepper Sports
& Entertainment, will begin in 2026 and is expected to be completed by 2030. The renovation will include upgrades to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems, as well as enhancements to audio and video systems, lighting, seating, and concessions. An indoor field house will also be constructed on the team's practice field. The project is largely funded by tourism taxes, with the Charlotte City Council approving $650 million in debt to initiate the work.
Why It's Important?
This renovation project is significant for the local economy and the sports community. It represents a major investment in infrastructure that will enhance the fan experience and potentially increase the stadium's capacity to host major events. The involvement of minority-owned businesses in the construction process aligns with broader efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in large-scale projects. The renovation is expected to boost local employment and stimulate economic activity in the region, benefiting businesses and residents alike.
What's Next?
As the project progresses, stakeholders will monitor its impact on local employment and economic growth. The successful completion of the renovation could set a precedent for future public-private partnerships in sports infrastructure development. Additionally, the enhanced stadium facilities may attract more events, further boosting tourism and local business revenues.
